Illinois Expanding Medicare-Medicaid Alignment Initiative Statewide

On July 1, 2021, the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS) expanded its Medicare-Medicaid Alignment Initiative (MMAI) program statewide. The MMAI program previously operated only in selected counties. Total MMAI enrollment in May 2021 was approximately 62,000. Approximately 45,000 individuals are MMAI eligible for passive enrollment to a health plan in the expansion counties. Passive enrollment means that if a customer does not choose a health plan, the customer will be auto assigned to a MMAI health plan.
