Illinois Governor’s 2016 Budget Proposal Cuts Medicaid By $1.3 Billion
In February 2015, new Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner released his 2016 Budget Proposal, which makes $1.3 billion in cuts to the state’s Medicaid program and special needs services. If projected spending growth for the 2016 fiscal year is taken into account, the cuts total $1.47 billion. The total proposed budget for the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS), which runs the state’s Medicaid program, is $19.1 billion for fiscal year 2016, about 6.8% less than the $20.5 billion appropriated in 2015.
