Illinois, Iowa & Tennessee Corrections To Launch Data Sharing Initiatives To Reduce Recidivism

The Departments of Corrections (DOC) in Illinois, Iowa, and Tennessee are launching data sharing initiatives to reduce recidivism among offenders supervised by the state DOC. The three states were selected to participate in the National Governors Association’s (NGA) Cross Boundary Corrections Information Exchange Policy Academy. The academy will provide the states with technical assistance to help them share corrections information to support corrections reform, improve offender reentry services, and protect public safety. The data to be shared could include corrections information such as parolee release dates, prison and addiction history, known medications, and mental health needs.
