Illinois Medicaid Pediatric Care Coordination Program Led To Limited Savings
A study of the Illinois Medicaid pediatric care coordination program for children and young adults with chronic diseases found that the program lowered spending but provided limited savings. During the first year of the Coordinated Healthcare for Complex Kids (CHECK) program, Medicaid expenditures and health care utilization decreased similarly for those in the care coordination program and a non-enrolled control group of children with chronic disease. There was no reduction of hospital and emergency department utilization among the CHECK participants.
