On August 24, 2021, the Illinois legislature passed Senate Bill (SB) 967 to support a Medicare Family Planning State Plan Amendment (SPA). The amendment expands the current Illinois Medicaid plan so that people ineligible for full benefit Medicaid still have coverage for preventive contraceptive care and associated screenings related to reproductive well-being. Prior to signing SB 967, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker issued an amendatory veto to correct a technical error in one section’s effective date that conflicts with the implementation timeline.
