On August 2, 2021, the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS) announced that the state plans to cover two programs related to diabetes: the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) and the Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support (DSMES) program. HFS submitted a state plan amendment on July 21, 2021, to the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and as of August 17, 2021, was still waiting for approval. Coverage of these new programs will begin after the state receives federal approval.
