Illinois Moving Methadone Treatment To Medicaid State Plan Service
The Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS) is moving funding for methadone treatment, a medication assisted treatment (MAT) for opioid use disorder, from grant funding to the state Medicaid plan. On December 21, 2016, HFS released a public notice about this plan. The notice said the proposed change would be effective for dates of service on or after January 1, 2017. The proposal calls for provider organizations to receive reimbursement of $70 per week for dispensing or administering opioid compounds as a medical adjunct to substance abuse treatment on a weekly per-patient basis.
