Individuals With ADHD & SUD Nearly Twice As Likely To Stop ADHD Medication Within One Year

Individuals with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and a co-occurring substance use disorder (SUD) were nearly twice as likely to discontinue ADHD medication within one year compared to individuals with ADHD but no SUD, according to a recent study of Swedish data. The discontinuation rate was 44% for those with SUD compared to 25% for the control group. Those with SUD discontinued ADHD treatment roughly one month earlier than controls, with a median time to discontinuation of 111 days versus 142 days.
