Interdisciplinary Hospital Teams Increase Post-Discharge Use Of Medication For Opioid Use Disorder
Offering interprofessional hospital addiction consultation services was tied to increased use of medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD) after discharge among consumers with opioid use disorder (OUD) who were not receiving MOUD treatment upon hospital admission. In a program implemented by the New York City Health + Hospitals system (H+H), 11% of consumers with OUD treated by the interdisciplinary team initiated MOUD when they were discharged. About two-thirds (67%) of them continued MOUD for one month after discharge.
