Interpersonal Violence & Abuse Raises Risk Of Adult-Onset Diabetes By 35% Among Victims

The likelihood of developing adult-onset diabetes was 35% higher among people who had experienced childhood maltreatment or who had been a victim of adult interpersonal violence or abuse. Compared to people who had not experienced abuse or neglect, the risk of diabetes was 15% higher among those who experienced childhood neglect, and 26% higher among those who experienced childhood physical abuse. The risk of diabetes was 23% higher among adult victims of interpersonal violence or abuse.
