Judge Orders Connecticut To Overhaul Its School System To Correct ‘Vast’ Inequalities
On September 7, 2016, a Connecticut State Superior Court judge ordered the state to overhaul its school system to correct inequalities between poor and wealthy school districts. The ruling was in Connecticut Coalition For Justice In Education Funding v. Rell. In the ruling, the judge ordered the state to develop a plan that addresses its funding model, graduation standards, teacher evaluation and compensation, and special education. On September 15, 2016, Connecticut Attorney General George Jepson announced plans to appeal the ruling.
