Kansas Medicaid Launches Pilot To Move State Hospital Residents With I/DD To Community

The Kansas Medicaid program is piloting a program to help residents of Osawatomie State Hospital with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) who also have severe and persistent mental illnesses leave the hospital for community placements. The program is led by Ben Swinnen, executive director of Equi-Venture Farm Day & Residential, with the support of the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services (KDADS). Funding for the program is through the Money Follows the Person (MFP), and the state’s waivers for home-and community-based services for people with I/DD.
