Kentucky Implements New Juvenile Justice Classification System To House Male Offenders Separately By Severity Of Charges

On January 12, 2023, Kentucky’s Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) shifted to a new housing classification system to house male offenders separately by severity of charges. In the new system, male juveniles who have been charged with a crime and detained but have not been sentenced will be housed in different facilities to separate youth charged with higher-level offenses from youth charged with lower-level offenses.
