Smaller Residential Care Communities Provide More Assistance With Activities Of Daily Living
In 2020, a greater percentage of residents in residential care communities with more than 50 beds were aged 85 years and older (51%) compared with smaller communities (49%) with four to 25 beds. Residential care communities house people who cannot live independently but generally do not require the skilled care provided by nursing homes. Small communities with 4 to 25 beds had the highest percentage of residents needing assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs), such as bathing, dressing, toileting, transferring, walking, and eating than larger communities with 26 or more beds.
