Lawsuit Against Anthem Over Coverage Criteria For Residential Mental Health Treatment Will Move Forward
On February 24, 2022, a federal judge denied Anthem’s request to partially dismiss a lawsuit over its mental health coverage criteria for residential treatment, which means the complaint will move forward. The plaintiffs had been denied coverage for residential psychiatric treatment. In their initial complaint filed on April 29, 2020, they alleged that Anthem adopted coverage criteria for this service that is “far more restricted” than generally accepted standards. The plaintiffs requested injunctive relief against both defendants, and other appropriate relief. Additionally, they seek to make the complaint a class action lawsuit.
