Limited Clinical Benefits Or Cost Savings Found With Diabetes Management Tools
An analysis of eight digital management tools for people with type 2 diabetes concluded that these tools provide limited clinical benefits to consumers using them, and use of the tools has not delivered savings to payers because the cost to use them exceeds the value of savings due to improved clinical outcomes. To improve their return on using the tools, the researchers recommended that health plans regularly analyze user outcomes and link the contracts to clinical performance, focus on subpopulations such as those newly using insulin or those with higher HbA1c levels.
