Long-term care insurance (LTCI) policies provide financial protection for individuals requiring assisted living services in the U.S., covering an average of 2.6 years of care based on current costs, according to a recent report from America's Health Insurance Plans (AHIP).
As of 2024, nearly 6.9 million Americans maintain LTCI coverage through various policy types. The market includes traditional stand-alone policies held by 5.8 million individuals, extended benefit or hybrid policies covering 374,868 people, and acceleration policies protecting 746,932 policyholders.
