Los Angeles County Moves Forward On Recommendations For Child Protection
On February 4, 2014, The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors agreed to study the feasibility of implementing recommendations to improve the county child welfare system and improve child safety through greater coordination between law enforcement, public health and the county Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS). A key focus is ensuring that abuse and neglect referrals for infants are investigated jointly by public health nurses and emergency services workers, and that the health status of every infant involved in DCFS investigations is screened by the current county-wide medical hubs prior to a placement decision.
