Los Angeles County To Replace Men’s Central Jail With New Mental Health Hospital For Inmates

On February 12, 2019, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors (BOS) adopted a motion to change its plans for replacing the Men’s Central Jail Facility. Initially, the county intended to replace it with a mental health jail, the Consolidated Correctional Treatment Facility (CCTF). The motion proposed replacing the jail with a Mental Health Treatment Center operated by the Department of Health Services and staffed by the Department of Mental Health.

The motion to change the plan was presented by Supervisors Janice Hahn and Mark Ridley-Thomas just before the BOS was to vote on a design-build contract . . .
