Los Angeles County To Stop Collection On Nearly $90 Million In Juvenile Detention Fees

On October 9, 2018, Los Angeles county supervisors voted to stop collecting fees once charged to families of juvenile delinquents for their incarceration, totaling approximately $89 million in fees that were assessed prior to 2009. As of 2009, L.A. County's Probation Department suspended new fees for juvenile delinquent incarceration but continued to collect payment of old fees. This decision affects approximately 52,000 accounts.
