Louisiana Plans To Use Food Stamp Data For Medicaid Enrollment

On May 4, 2016, the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) submitted a Medicaid state plan amendment for its Medicaid expansion to gain authority to use data from the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to streamline enrollment of the Medicaid expansion population. DHH will implement a Medicaid State Plan option to use the SNAP program’s determination of total SNAP household income to establish financial eligibility based on modified adjusted gross income (MAGI) for Medicaid.
