Louisiana Stops Housing Juveniles In A Unit At The Louisiana State Penitentiary
On September 15, 2023, the Louisiana Office of Juvenile Justice (OJJ) announced it had moved all juvenile offenders from the West Feliciana Center for Youth unit which was created from the former death row at the Louisiana State Penitentiary, a large adult maximum-security prison (also called Angola). The youth have been moved to a new local juvenile justice facility in Jackson Parish that opened in July 2023.
