Many People With Long-Term Care Insurance Who Need Care Have Lower Levels Of Disability
Among consumers newly turning 65 between 2021 and 2025, the majority of long-term services and supports (LTSS) will be needed by consumers whose level of disability does not meet the level-of-need criteria needed for coverage by their long-term care insurance (LTCI) plan. In all, about 49% of men and 64% of women newly turning 65 will need LTSS at some point in their remaining lifetime. Of those who need LTSS, the average duration will be 5.4 years.
