Many states lack the information to monitor maltreatment in residential facilities for children in foster care, according to a report by the U.S. Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (OIG). This puts children in foster care at risk for continued maltreatment. There are currently nearly 50,000 foster care children who have been placed in in residential facilities across the U.S.
