Maryland Foster System Sued Over Administration Of Psychotropic Drugs In Children
The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Maryland, Disability Rights Maryland, and Children’s Rights have filed a class action lawsuit against the Maryland foster care system, alleging a failure in adequate oversight of psychotropic drug administration in children in Maryland’s foster care system. Specifically, the lawsuit alleges that over the course of a decade, the state’s Department of Human Services and Social Services Administration (HSSA) has failed to maintain adequate medical records and has not established a policy of informed consent, where an adult responsible for the child could consult on their medications.
