Massachusetts General Acute Care Hospitals With Behavioral Health Units Operating At 39% Cumulative Negative Margin
Between 2010 and 2013, 18 general acute care hospitals in Massachusetts with inpatient behavioral health units operated at a cumulative margin of negative 39%. Among general acute care hospitals with outpatient behavioral health units, hospitals operated at a cumulative margin of negative 82% over that same time period, and the cumulative negative margin for the outpatient behavioral health unit alone was negative 58%. These facilities included academic medical centers, teaching hospitals, community hospitals, and disproportionate share hospitals.
