Massachusetts Is Planning To Pilot Home-Based Supports For Consumers With I/DD As An Alternative To 24/7 Residential Care

The State of Massachusetts is planning to test the feasibility of home-based residential supports (HBRS) for consumers with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD) as an alternative to 24/7 residential services. The Department of Developmental Services (DDS) intends to fund eight pilot HBRS programs that will each work with four or five individuals with I/DD who are currently supported by family caregivers and who have been prioritized by DDS as “residential priority 1” but are not currently placed in a 24/7 residential program.
