Median Emergency Department Visit Time Was 161 Minutes Nationwide

From July 2024 through June 2025, across 52 states and territories, the median time consumers spent in the emergency department (ED) before leaving their visit was 161 minutes, according to federal data. This measure includes individuals receiving psychiatric or mental health care as well as those transferred to another facility. The median visit time decreased 1.2% from 163 minutes during the previous reporting period.
