Medicaid Behavioral Health Use During COVID-19 Dropped 34% For Children & 22% For Adults
Between March 2020 through October 2020 during the U.S. coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) public health emergency, Medicaid behavioral health utilization dropped. Mental health service use dropped by 34% for children under age 19 and by 22% for adults ages 19 to 64 compared to the same time period in 2019. This translates to approximately 26 million fewer mental health services utilized across both groups (about 14 million fewer mental health services for children and approximately 12 million fewer mental health services for adults).
