Medicaid Enrollment Projected To Grow By 37% In Next 10 Years

Between federal fiscal year 2013 and 2022, Medicaid enrollment is expected to increase by 36.8%, from 59.1 million in 2013 to 80.9 million in 2022. Of the 21.8 million new Medicaid beneficiaries in 2022, an estimated 18.4 million will qualify under the new Medicaid expansion category for low-income, uninsured adults not otherwise eligible for Medicaid. Medicaid spending is projected to increase by 87%, from $456.4 billion in 2013 to $853.6 billion in 2022.
