Medicare Advantage To Launch Hospice Carve-In Through Value-Based Insurance Design Model
Starting January 2021, Medicare Advantage plans participating in the Value-Based Insurance Design (VBID) Model will have the option to offer hospice services. Normally Medicare Advantage plans do not offer hospice services, which are provided separately through fee-for-service FFS Medicare. The hospice provider organization becomes responsible for all of the person’s medical care and services. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is testing a Medicare Advantage hospice carve-in model to increase access to hospice services and facilitate better coordination between members’ hospice provider organizations and their other clinical professionals.
