Medicare To Increase Inpatient Psychiatric Facility Per Diem Rates By 2.1% Starting October 1, 2014

The federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) have announced that the federal per diem payment rates for Medicare inpatient psychiatric facilities (IPFs) will increase by 2.1% in fiscal year (FY) 2015. The increase translates into an unadjusted federal per diem of $728.31 for Medicare-reimbursed discharges beginning October 1, 2014 and ending September 30, 2015. CMS estimates that the average payment to IPFs will increase by 2.5% in FY2015, after outlier adjustments are made for higher cost patients. Outlier adjustments are intended to promote access to IPF care for those patients who require expensive care . . .
