Medicare To Report Inpatient Psychiatric Facility Performance On Hospital Compare Website

In April 2014, Medicare will begin publicly reporting hospital psychiatric unit and freestanding psychiatric facility performance on eight inpatient psychiatric care quality measures for adults. The measures concern the use of physical restraint and seclusion, polypharmacy, and discharge planning for continuity of care. Inpatient psychiatric hospitals and units began submitting performance data to Medicare in 2012. Data for the first four measures will be available on the Medicare Hospital Compare website (www.medicare.gov/hospitalcompare/search.html) in April, and the remaining measures will be added later in 2014.
