Metabolic Syndrome Linked To Increased Risk Of Young-Onset Dementia
Metabolic syndrome risk factors are linked to a higher likelihood of young-onset dementia in individuals aged 40 to 60 at the time of diagnosis, according to an analysis of health insurance data from South Korea. After accounting for variables including age, education, physical activity levels, depression, and stroke history, the researchers determined that metabolic syndrome corresponds with a 24% elevated dementia risk. The study also revealed that, among specific dementia types, metabolic syndrome is tied to a 12% increased risk of Alzheimer’s disease and a 21% greater risk of vascular dementia.
