Michigan DHHS Secures Nearly 100 New Juvenile Justice Residential Placements & Embarks On Juvenile Justice Reform
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) is preparing to implement juvenile justice reform, and created about 100 new residential placements to clear a waitlist for youth ordered by a court to secure treatment as part of the reform. MDHHS announced the new placements on November 21, 2023. On December 12, 2023, Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist signed bipartisan legislation transforming Michigan’s juvenile justice system and investing in diversion and re-entry services.
