Military Announces ElectRx Neurotech Research Initiative Focused On Brain Disorders
On August 26, 2014, the federal Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) announced details about ElectRx, a new $78.9 million five-year research program to explore neuromodulation of organ functions and to develop minimally invasive neurotechnologies that deliver customized therapies to treat conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), epilepsy, traumatic brain injury (TBI), and depression. The program is expected to help accelerate scientific research aimed at achieving a more complete understanding of the structure and function of specific neural circuits of the peripheral nervous system, and their role in health and disease.
