Minnesota Commercial Health Plans Implement Insulin Price Controls
Three Minnesota health plans have announced strategies to control the price of insulin for their members with diabetes. Starting January 1, 2020, Medica and UCare will cap the monthly member out-of-pocket cost at $25. For the next commercial plan year, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota (Blue Cross) will cover insulin at no charge.
Medica announced its plans on August 6, 2019. The $25 monthly cap applies each 30-day supply of insulin covered by Medica and purchased by Medica’s fully insured commercial groups that are headquartered in Minnesota, as well as individual members in Minnesota . . .
