Montana Launches $10 Million Grant Program To Increase Residential Bed Capacity For I/DD & SMI
Montana is taking the first steps on its initiative to transform the state's public behavioral health and disability support system. On February 5, 2024, the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) launched a grant program valued at $10 million to increase residential bed capacity for congregate community living provider organizations that primarily serve individuals living with a serious mental illness (SMI) or intellectual/developmental disability (I/DD) diagnosis. In 2020 and 2021, the state lost 100 beds for people with SMI or I/DD, which represented about 25% of statewide capacity.
