Beginning March 1, 2018, the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) plans to cut $35 million in health services spending from its Medicaid budget for fiscal years 2018 and 2019, through benefit limits and a 2.99% decrease in inpatient and outpatient reimbursement rates. The reductions have been proposed to help alleviate the state's current fiscal crisis. In late 2017, it was estimated that up to $227 million would be needed to cut from the state's general fund budget, $49 million of which will be taken out of appropriations to DPHHS.
