More Than 3,000 Chemicals In Food Packaging, Including Some Known To Be Hazardous, Found In Humans
Of an estimated 14,400 known chemicals used in food packaging, evidence of 3,601 of these food contact chemicals (FCCs) have been found to be present in humans. This equals 25% of all known chemicals in food packaging and other articles that come into contact with food, such as kitchen utensils, pans, and storage containers. Of those FCCs found in humans, at least 80 have “hazard properties of high concern.” FCCs are defined as all the chemical compounds present in food contact articles, regardless of whether they are intentionally added or present for other reasons.
