Over A Third Dementia/Alzheimer’s Disease Cases Associated With Obesity, Inactivity & Low Education
More than one-third of cases of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and related dementia in the United States are linked to modifiable risk factors. The largest risks were obesity, physical inactivity, and low educational attainment. About 17.7% of AD cases were related to midlife obesity, 11.8% were related to physical inactivity, and 11.7% were related to low educational attainment.
The burden of the three modifiable AD risk factors was relatively higher among men compared to women. The burden varied across racial groups, as follows:
