Mortality Risk Was 54% Higher With Housing Instability In Those Newly Diagnosed With Cancer
Among insured people newly diagnosed cancer, those who are also experiencing housing instability have an adjusted 54% higher mortality risk than those newly diagnosed with cancer who do not face housing instability. If the individual is also facing additional social risks (food insecurity, transportation difficulties, and financial hardship), they face a 105% higher rate of mortality than those who do not face housing instability. Financial hardship, food insecurity, and transportation difficulties did not seem to higher mortality than compared to those not experiencing these factors.
