62.9% Of States Failed To Meet IDEA Requirements In 2026 Determinations
The U.S. Department of Education's 2026 determinations show that a majority of states and territories did not fully meet the requirements of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) for either Part B or Part C programs in 2024 according to an analysis released in 2026. Of the 60 states and jurisdictions evaluated under Part B, which serves students with disabilities ages 3 through 21, only 21 received a determination of "meets requirements." The remaining 39 (65.0%) were found to need assistance, intervention, or substantial intervention in implementing the law's requirements.
