61.5% Of New York City Healthfirst Medicaid MCO Members Have Multiple Chronic Conditions
About 61.5% of adult Medicaid beneficiaries in New York enrolled in the Healthfirst managed care organization (MCO) had multiple (two or more) chronic health conditions (MCC) in 2012 through 2014. Nationally, about 42% of adults have MCC; and about 81% of adults over age 65 have MCC.
The most frequent single chronic condition was hypertension (about 28%). The next most common conditions were hyperlipidaemia (high cholesterol) (26%), diabetes (16%), degenerative eye problem (glaucoma) (15%), and allergy and other upper respiratory disorders (12%).
