Nearly 99% Of Unemployed Adults With Autism In Need Of Public Employment Services Do Not Receive Them
An estimated 1.98 million adults with autism ages 15 to 64 — or 99% of those who likely needed employment services in 2016 — did not receive employment services support through Medicaid or through vocational rehabilitation (VR) programs overseen by the federal Department of Education Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA). During 2016, about 4,222 adults with autism received long-term employment services and supports through their state Medicaid program, and another 18,453 individuals received short-term employment services through their state VR program.
