Nebraska’s Licensed Behavioral Health Workforce Increased By 49% Between 2010 & 2024
The number of licensed behavioral health professionals in Nebraska increased by 49% from 2010 and 2024, rising from 2,279 to 3,397, according to a report by the Behavioral Health Education Center of Nebraska. Most of the state workforce is composed of licensed independent mental health professionals.
For three license types, the number of professionals more than doubled. The strongest growth, at more than 200%, was among psychiatric physician assistants (267%), rising from 9 in 2010 to 33 in 2024; and licensed independent mental health professionals (225%), rising from 589 in 2010 to 1,912 in 2024.
