Nebraska’s Licensed Behavioral Health Workforce Increased By 49% Between 2010 & 2024
The number of licensed behavioral health professionals in Nebraska increased by 49% from 2010 and 2024, rising from 2,279 to 3,397, according to a report by the Behavioral Health Education Center of Nebraska.
The strongest growth was among psychiatric physician assistants (267%), licensed independent mental health professionals (225%), and psychiatric advanced practice registered nurses (168%). The psychiatrist and psychologist workforces increased more modestly, at 8% and 19% respectively. Losses were reported for licensed mental health professionals (down 40%) and for licensed alcohol and drug counselors (down 30%).
