On October 14, 2020, the Nevada County, California, Sheriff’s Office launched a pilot mobile crisis team through a collaborative effort with Nevada County Behavioral Health. During the one-year pilot, the team, staffed by one deputy sheriff and one therapist, will respond to calls related to mental health, substance abuse, or homelessness. The team will act to de-escalate critical incidents as well as coordinate referrals to services to the local hospital Crisis Stabilization Unit, HOME Team, and Nevada County Behavioral Health.
