New Behavioral Health & SDoH ICD-10 Coding Changes Became Effective On October 1

Behavioral health provider organizations must now adhere to several International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM) coding changes that became effective on October 1, 2024. These changes include new Z codes for reporting social determinants of health (SDoH). Z codes are ICD-10-CM codes that capture factors influencing a consumer's health status or reasons for utilizing health services. Changes will be in effect for all encounters with health care consumers and/or discharges that occur between October 1, 2024, and September 30, 2025.
