New California Law Requires Consumer Bill Of Rights For Addiction Treatment
On April 18, 2022, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed legislation to require addiction treatment provider organizations to adopt and provide a consumer bill of rights. The goal is to ensure that consumers seeking addiction treatment are afforded basic rights and protections in a treatment setting that is safe and ethical. This legislation also prohibits treatment providers from engaging in false or misleading advertising. The provisions will enforced by the California Department of Health Care Services. Violations will be subject to a civil penalty of up to $20,000 per violation.
