New Dietary Guidelines Update Federal Nutrition Policy
The federal government released new Dietary Guidelines on January 7, 2026. For an adult consuming a diet of 2,000 calories, daily consumption should include the following components, according to the updated Guidelines:
Protein target: 1.2 to 1.6 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight per day.
Vegetables: three servings per day.
Fruits: two servings per day.
Grains target: two to four servings per day. Prioritize fiber-rich whole grains.
Dairy serving goals: three servings per day.
In general, saturated fat consumption should not exceed 10% of total daily calories.
